Get the care you need right here with a quality, comprehensive exam. Be advised that Dr. Cargill works together with many area eye specialist should referral be necessary.

Your child’s eyesight is critical to success in school

An estimated one-quarter of children suffer in school because of an undiagnosed vision problem. Your child’s eyes should be examined at age 4, or age 3 if there is a family history of eye conditions. Protect your child’s vision with eye exams to catch minor problems before they get more serious. There are common signs that can indicate vision problems.

  • Squinting, rubbing or blinking the eyes frequently
  • Having trouble seeing the blackboard at school
  • Using a finger as a place mark when reading
  • Closing or covering one eye to focus
  • Holding reading materials close to the face
  • Red or crusty eyes

Eye Exam and Consultation

During an eye exam, Dr. Charles Cargill will ask you questions about any symptoms or issues you are experiencing, medications your are currently taking, any blurry vision, your work environment, and your overall health. Family history and previous eye or vision conditions will also be discussed during this part of the examination. Dr. Cargill will consider this information when determining any treatments or recommendations.

Vision Testing

Regular vision testing and evaluations ensure that you always have the clearest vision possible. Our Wexford optometrist provides regular vision acuity tests as part of a comprehensive eye exam. Dr. Cargill will measure how each eye is seeing by using a wall eye chart and a reading eye chart. The results of these tests are portrayed as a fraction, with 20/20 being the standard for normal distance and reading vision. Depending on the results of your vision test, Dr. Cargill may prescribe corrective glasses, contacts, or eye exercises.

Eye Function Testing

In addition to vision testing, an eye exam in our Wexford office includes testing eye functionality. Our optometrist performs several tests to evaluate depth perception, color vision, eye muscle capabilities, peripheral vision, and responsiveness to light. Several other simple tests are completed to determine whether the eyes are focusing, moving, and working together properly. The test results enable Dr. Cargill to diagnose any underlying conditions that may be impairing the eyes ability to focus or work together.

Eye Health

As part of a comprehensive eye exam, our Wexford optometrist examines the overall health of the eye through a visual examination and tonometry. Dr. Cargill evaluates eye health by visually inspecting the eye and eyelids using magnification and a bright light. To examine the internal structures of the eye, we may dilate the pupils. Increased eye pressure may be an indicator of glaucoma, so we utilize tonometry to measure eye pressure. After completing these short tests, Dr. Cargill reviews the results and discusses any necessary treatment options with you. Contact us at (724) 935-5761 today to schedule a comprehensive eye exam.

My family has gone to Dr. Cargill for 20 years. He started seeing my daughter when she was 7. He was great with her... as a little kid, and he's still great with her now that she's 20. My husband and I are also his patients. He always makes us feel like we're his favorite patients (and I can tell from his waiting room that all of us patients feel that way!). From routine eye care to some really worrisome issues, he's always been available, kind, and so professional. He's so smart, so experienced, and so up-to-date. I can't imagine trusting my and my family's vision to anyone else.read more

I have been going to Dr. Cargill for a number of years and can honestly say that I enjoy my visits. The staff is... helpful and efficient, the selection of glasses is comprehensive, and Dr. Cargill is very friendly, experienced and thorough. They can put prescription lenses in Costa sunglasses as well - definitely my favorite brand. For me, a local practice like this is preferred over the corporate retail optometry shops because it's much more personal. And although the quality of care is better, I haven't felt that it costs any more than the chain stores. Overall, very satisfied.read more
